About

I’m Andrew—or Drew, if you prefer.

I lead engineering for Data & Platform Enablement at a large UK retail bank. Over more than twenty years I’ve moved from writing software and working on distributed data systems to leading large engineering organisations. Along the way, I’ve twice stepped into interim Executive Director roles, leading the organisation responsible for the bank’s data systems, infrastructure and engineering frameworks.

Most of my work sits where software, data and infrastructure meet: turning ambiguous problems into systems that can be operated, trusted and scaled. I’m still happiest close to the details—testing an idea, tracing a failure or making something small enough to understand.

Right now I’m particularly interested in reliable platforms, agentic AI and what these technologies change about the way engineering is practised at scale.

I started out building search and data systems, including early work with HBase and Nutch. That mix of software, infrastructure and messy real-world data has held my attention ever since.

All opinions and mistakes are my own.
